Pig Farming and Agriculture
Rooted in agriculture. That sums up Nooyen Group. Nooyen Group, having its own pig farms and an arable farming division, knows all the ins and outs of the agricultural industry. We first test our new product innovations on our own pig farms before providing them to livestock farmers all over the world. Reliability and quality are our prime focus.
It is not for nothing that our slogan is ‘Innovation by tradition’.
Pig farming
Nooyen Group farms 4,500 sows plus the corresponding fatteners in several locations in Spain. Most sows are of a well-known variety: Spanish Ibérico pigs. This smaller variety has not been domesticated to a wide extent yet, has relatively low fertility, but offers a high (intra)muscular fat content that gives the meat its wonderful flavour. We keep 800 of these pigs outdoors – on 1 hectare per animal – according to the age-old and traditional Ibérico concept.
Pig Meat Products
In Spain, Nooyen Group is responsible for the entire pig supply chain: from the birth of the young piglets up to and including the sale of the meat. We slaughter our Ibérico pigs in our own slaughterhouse. The hams go to our own curing facility. We sell our meat products under the El Porquere brand in four shops, owned by our company, in Catalonia. We also sell olive oil, honey and cheese under this brand name. Our products are also bought by local butchers, restaurants and wholesalers.
Agriculture
Nooyen Group has large plots of farmland in the Netherlands and in Spain where we grow different crops. These arable farming activities keep Nooyen Group in touch with all aspects of agriculture and with the price dynamics that pig farmers face when buying feed raw materials and mixed feed.
